Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport terminal guideAirport Guide
Charles de Gaulle lies about 25 km from central Paris and handles around 72 million passengers a year (2025). It has exactly one difficulty: T2 is not one terminal but a large complex of seven sub-terminals, A to G — the letter in "T2E" on your boarding pass matters far more than the "T2" itself.
The three terminals
| Code | Name | Main users | Role |
|---|---|---|---|
| T1 | Terminal 1 | International carriers | The circular main building, international flights |
| T2 | Terminal 2 (A–G) | Air France and SkyTeam above all | The main terminal complex; both international and domestic |
| T3 | Terminal 3 | Low-cost and charter carriers | The smallest |
How to work out where you are going: when your boarding pass says T2, read the letter as well (T2E, T2F and so on) — the letter decides which end of the complex you are in; T1 and T3 are separate buildings and hard to mistake for one another.
Our diagram splits T2 into seven linked buildings and draws T1 as a separate circle precisely to reflect that "cluster of buildings" structure.
Moving between the terminals
- CDGVAL free shuttle — links T1, the T2 sub-terminals, T3 and the car parks; it is the backbone for changing building and for reaching the railway station.
- Inside T2 the sub-terminals can be reached on foot from one another, but the distance from A to G is considerable; for a connection that crosses from one end to the other, allow extra time.
Routes and flights
| Aspect | Points |
|---|---|
| Routes | 72.03 million passengers in 2025, serving more than 300 destinations, making it Europe's third-largest hub by international connectivity; long-haul coverage spans North and South America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia |
| Flights | 473,798 aircraft movements in 2025 |
| Aircraft | Air France is the home-based carrier, with a mainline fleet of around 229 aircraft at the end of 2025 (plus about 39 Hop! regional E170/190s); main types are the Airbus A350, A330, A220 and A320 family, and Boeing 777 |
Getting into Paris
- RER B — the regional express runs direct to Gare du Nord in about 35 minutes; the best balance of price and speed, but crowded at peak times and a place to watch for pickpockets.
- Roissybus — direct to the Opéra area, useful if you have a lot of luggage and are staying in the west of the centre.
- Taxi — official flat rates apply to either side of the centre (around €56 / €65 depending on which bank of the Seine you are heading for); traffic does not affect the fare, which makes it the first choice late at night.
- TGV — the station sits directly beneath T2, with direct trains to Lille, Lyon, Brussels and other cities.
Practical tips
- Paris has two airports: Charles de Gaulle (CDG) and Orly (ORY). Check the three-letter code when you search for flights, as the two are about 40 km apart.
- An Air France to Air France connection is almost always completed within the T2 complex; a connection that crosses to T1 needs the CDGVAL time added on, and here more buffer is better than less.
- The last RER B trains run around midnight, so keep the flat-rate taxi as your fallback if you arrive late at night.
