Dubai International Airport terminal guideAirport Guide
Dubai International Airport lies only about 15 km from the city centre and handles around 95.2 million passengers a year (2025), making it the world's busiest international airport. What sets it apart is that terminals are bound tightly to carriers: Emirates has T3 to itself while most other international airlines use T1 — read the airline and the terminal is settled.
The three terminals and four concourses
| Code | Name | Concourse | Main carriers |
|---|---|---|---|
| T3 | Terminal 3 | A / B / C | Emirates and some flydubai flights |
| T1 | Terminal 1 | D | All other international carriers |
| T2 | Terminal 2 | Standalone building | Mostly flydubai regional flights |
The gate letter is the concourse, and the concourse decides whether you need the people mover:
- Concourse A — T3's remote boarding concourse, reached by driverless people mover after security.
- Concourse B — immediately beside the T3 main building, walkable.
- Concourse C — the southern concourse connected to T3.
- Concourse D — T1's boarding concourse, reached by people mover after security in T1.
Our diagram draws Concourses A and D as parallel bars set apart from the main buildings precisely to mark those two people-mover links.
Transfers and connections
Dubai is the world's largest international transfer point, and Emirates connections almost all stay inside T3, where the in-terminal people mover keeps them efficient:
- Read the gate letter to tell which concourse you are in; Concourses A and D need people-mover time built in.
- Emirates to Emirates almost never means changing building — a connection of around 2 hours is already comfortable.
- Connections involving T2 are the most awkward of all: T2 sits well away from T1 and T3, so confirm the transfer arrangement with your airline and allow longer.
Routes and flights
| Aspect | Details |
|---|---|
| Routes | 108 international carriers serving 291 destinations in 2025; 95.2 million passengers (+3.1%), retaining DXB's place as the world's busiest airport for international passengers |
| Flights | 454,800 aircraft movements in 2025, roughly 1,250 a day |
| Aircraft | Emirates is the base carrier; as of March 2026 its fleet stood at around 277 all-widebody aircraft — 116 Airbus A380s, about 130 Boeing 777s and 19 Airbus A350s |
Getting into the city
- Metro Red Line — stations at both T1 and T3 and direct to the city centre, and the cheapest option; it runs until around midnight, so plan another way for a late arrival.
- Taxi — picks up at the terminal exits; about 20–30 minutes to the city centre.
- Airport bus — the lowest fare, but with limited routes and frequency; suited to travellers who are not in a hurry.
Practical tips
- A 2–3 hour connection is the normal rhythm in Dubai, and there is no shortage of seating and food inside — with time in hand there is no need to rush.
- When your gate is in Concourse A, the people mover plus walking takes about 15 minutes, so do not cut it fine for boarding.
- Summer ground temperatures are extreme; around midday, prefer the Metro and indoor connections and keep open-air walking to a minimum.
