Copenhagen Airport terminal guideAirport Guide

Updated September 21, 2026

Copenhagen Airport lies only about 8 km from the city centre and handles around 32.4 million passengers a year (2025), making it the busiest airport in the Nordics. Its structure fits into one sentence: two check-in buildings, one shared airside area, six piers — which building you check in at affects only the formalities, while gates are assigned by destination, and the two are not tied together.

Two check-in buildings and six piers

CodeNameNotes
T2Terminal 2Check-in and bag drop for most foreign airlines
T3Terminal 3Check-in for SAS and its group; the main arrivals hall and the rail station are here too
PierMain use
A / B / DFlights within Schengen
CNon-Schengen and long-haul flights; passport control required
EDedicated to SAS long-haul flights
FLow-cost carriers (formerly CPH Go)

How to work out where you are going: once through the shared security checkpoint you are in one and the same airside area, and gates are assigned by destination regardless of whether you checked in at T2 or T3. If you are unsure, go by the pier letter: C or E for non-Schengen, F for low-cost.

Our diagram draws the two check-in buildings as one body with six piers reaching out behind it precisely to make the point: here, you never change building after security.

Transfers and connections

  1. Every pier is walkable once you are through security, and a connection within Schengen usually works in 45–60 minutes.
  2. Non-Schengen flights leaving from piers C or E require passport control, so add that on top of your buffer.
  3. Copenhagen is the Nordic connecting hub, with a high share of through tickets and clear signage — just follow the gate letter.

Getting into Copenhagen

  • Metro line 2 (M2) — the station is at the far end of T3, about 12–15 minutes direct to the city centre, and it runs 24 hours, making it the reliable choice for a late arrival.
  • Regional trains and the Öresund train — direct to Malmö in Sweden, useful for cross-border itineraries.
  • Taxi — only about 8 km and 20 minutes or so, and by Nordic standards the fare is friendly.

Practical tips

  • Metro line 2 runs around the clock, one of the few airport lines in Europe that runs all night and goes straight to the centre — the first choice for a red-eye arrival.
  • T3 is being refurbished (until around 2027), and the central passage can narrow at peak times, so leave a little extra time for the walk.
  • Copenhagen is the stepping stone to southern Sweden, and the trains to Malmö use the same station as the city metro — there is no need to find another.
