In Seoul, the translated name is for visitors; the Korean address is for drivers and apps. A taxi driver may not recognise the translated name, Naver Map resolves Korean most reliably, and Kakao T expects a Korean destination.
The list below is grouped by what you need it for, and the Korean column is meant to be copied as-is. Copy it, paste it into Naver Map, show the screen to the driver, and screenshot it for offline use. Addresses and shops change, so check once more before you set off.
1. Why keep Korean addresses on your phone
Many Seoul taxi drivers are older and already find English street names hard work; a transliterated name is worse. Say "N Seoul Tower" in English and the driver is guessing; hand over a phone showing 105 and the conversation is over.
Naver Map is Korea's own mapping service and resolves Korean street numbers best, while an English or Chinese keyword often finds the neighbourhood but not the entrance. Kakao T matches destinations in Korean too, so a Korean address succeeds far more often than an English name.
Korea has also moved to a road-name-plus-number system, while older lot numbers — a district name plus a number — still work in apps and with drivers. Both are fine; just do not translate them yourself.
2. How to use it: copy, paste, show, screenshot
- Copy only the Korean column. Carry the translated name along and the search may land on a different branch.
- Paste it into Naver Map and check the pin is on the entrance you want — main buildings and annexes often sit a street apart.
- Show the screen to the driver. A Korean address plus a map pin beats pronunciation.
- Screenshot it for offline use. Save the few places you plan to visit that day; metro carriages often have no signal.
Shops relocate, duty-free stores are renamed, pop-ups close and hours change — re-check with Naver Map or Kakao T before you set off.
3. Airport and transport hubs
Incheon's T1 and T2 are separate buildings, so confirm your terminal before boarding the airport railway or hailing a taxi. Gimpo handles short-haul international flights plus heavy domestic traffic to Jeju, and those use different buildings.
| Place | Korean (copy-paste) | Use / notes |
|---|---|---|
| Incheon Airport T1 | 인천공항T1 | Railway, buses and taxi pin; free shuttle to T2, 18 minutes |
| Incheon Airport T2 | 인천공항T2 | Most Korean Air and SkyTeam flights |
| Gimpo International Airport | 김포국제공항 | Short-haul international and Jeju domestic; Lines 5/9, AREX all-stop |
| Seoul Station | 서울역 | AREX express terminus; Lines 1 and 4, KTX |

From Gimpo, the AREX all-stop reaches Seoul Station in about 22 minutes on T-money; from Incheon, the express and all-stop are different fares and rules.
4. Palaces, landmarks and parks
The palaces and landmarks cluster in Jongno and Jung-gu, a walk or one metro stop apart, and half a day covers the main ones. Street addresses matter because these places have several entrances.
| Place | Korean (copy-paste) | Use / notes |
|---|---|---|
37 | Still residential — keep the noise down |
105 | On Namsan; taxis stop at the cable-car base |
83 | Lower station, the usual way up |
| Cheong Wa Dae | 청와대 | North of Gyeongbokgung; some areas need a booking |
| Myeongdong Cathedral | 명동대성당 | Eastern end of the Myeongdong street, many steps |
Parks work differently: the address marks one gate and you still walk inside. The Han River parks run to more than a dozen sections, so a bare 한강공원 search returns something vague.
| Place | Korean (copy-paste) | Use / notes |
|---|---|---|
330 | Picnics and sunsets; Yeouinaru station, Line 5 |
| Hangang Park | 한강공원 | Generic — add the section (여의도, 뚝섬) |
273 | Next to Seongsu-dong; walks and picnics |
| Lotte World Tower | 롯데월드타워 | Jamsil; Lotte World and duty-free inside |
5. Shopping districts, department stores and duty-free
District names are two or three characters and navigation recognises them precisely. These are area names, not shop addresses — the same street holds several branches of one brand, so search the shop name again on arrival.
| Place | Korean (copy-paste) | Use / notes |
|---|---|---|
| Myeongdong | 명동 | Cosmetics and street food; money changers |
| Myeongdong Cartoon Street | 명동 재미로 | Short alley inside Myeongdong |
| Hongdae | 홍대 | Buskers and small shops; Hongik University station |
| Dongdaemun | 동대문 | Wholesale and retail at night; DDP next door |
| Apgujeong | 압구정동 | Brand flagships and select shops |
| Cheongdam-dong | 청담동 | Luxury street, walkable from Apgujeong |
| Hannam-dong | 한남동 | Coffee and concept stores, plenty of slopes |
| Itaewon | 이태원동 | International restaurants and bars |
| Seongsu-dong | 성수동 | Cafés and brand stores in old factories |
Department stores are where locals shop; duty-free is for departing travellers, with purchases collected at the airport. Outlets are prone to renaming, so check one still exists first.
| Place | Korean (copy-paste) | Use / notes |
|---|---|---|
| Lotte Department Store, main | 롯데백화점 본점 | Myeongdong, joined to Lotte Duty Free |
| Lotte Duty Free Myeongdong | 롯데면세점 명동본점 | Passport registration, airport pickup |
| Shinsegae Department Store, main | 신세계백화점 본점 | Myeongdong; main building and annex differ |
| Shinsegae Duty Free | 신세계면세점 | Myeongdong, beside the main store |
| Lotte Duty Free, Jamsil | 롯데면세점 월드타워점 | Inside Lotte World Tower |
6. Universities and photo spots
Universities are part of the shopping map here: Ewha, Yonsei and Hongik each sit inside a grid of shops and cafés. Campuses are generally open to visitors, but teaching buildings need a card, so read the signs and stay clear of classes.
| Place | Korean (copy-paste) | Use / notes |
|---|---|---|
52 | Sunken library and main gate are the photo spots |
50 | Sinchon; 15 minutes on foot from Ewha |
1 | Gwanak campus; Line 2 then a bus |
94 | Hongdae main gate, shops outside |
| Hanyang University | 한양대 | Wangsimni area, Hanyang University station |

Photo-spot addresses go out of date fastest: billboard walls change brand, pop-ups close, stalls move. For markets the address is the entrance, and inside you navigate by stall number.
| Place | Korean (copy-paste) | Use / notes |
|---|---|---|
88 | Food stalls and fabric traders; Jongno 5-ga station |
| Olive Young Myeongdong Town | 올리브영 명동 타운 | Largest Myeongdong branch, tax refund |
| SM Entertainment building | SM엔터테인먼트 스튜디오센터 | Seongsu-dong area; check whether visitors are allowed |
520-9 | The wall changes brand; search the current spot first |
