Incheon International Airport terminal guideAirport Guide
Incheon International Airport is built on Yeongjong Island, about 50 km from the city centre of Seoul, and handles around 74.1 million passengers a year (2025). It is one of Asia's most important connecting hubs, and structurally it has only two main buildings: Korean Air, Asiana and others at T2, most foreign airlines at T1 — confirm the operating airline and you have essentially identified the terminal.
Two terminals and one satellite concourse
| Code | Name | Gates | Main carriers |
|---|---|---|---|
| T1 | Terminal 1 | Main building piers | Most foreign airlines |
| —— | T1 Satellite Concourse | 101–132 | Assigned by flight; reached by free shuttle train |
| T2 | Terminal 2 | around 230–270 | Korean Air, Asiana Airlines and SkyTeam members |
The gate number gives away your position:
- 1xx (101–132) — the T1 Satellite Concourse, reached by shuttle train after immigration.
- 2xx (230–270) — T2.
- Every other two-digit number — the T1 main building.
T1 and T2 are far apart and cannot be reached on foot; a free shuttle bus runs between them, with a journey time of about 15 minutes.
Transfers and connections
Incheon's connection efficiency is among the best in the world, but a cross-terminal connection remains the biggest variable:
- First confirm the gate range of both flights (two-digit main building / 1xx / 2xx).
- Korean Air to Korean Air is almost always completed inside T2, and saves the most time.
- A connection between T1 and T2 must add the wait for the shuttle bus — allow more margin rather than less.
Routes and flights
| Aspect | Details |
|---|---|
| Routes | 74.07 million passengers in 2025 (+4.1%), the highest annual figure since the airport opened; it serves every major city worldwide and is also among the world's leading air-cargo hubs |
| Flights | 374,039 aircraft movements in 2025, roughly 1,025 a day |
| Aircraft | Korean Air and Asiana Airlines are the twin bases, both at T2; the two carriers completed their merger in 2024, with a combined fleet of about 200 aircraft, mainly Boeing 737 / 747 / 777 and Airbus A330 / A350 |
Getting into Seoul
- AREX Airport Railroad Express — about 45–50 minutes non-stop to Seoul Station, with reserved seats.
- Airport Railroad all-station train — stops at every station along the line, costs about half the Express fare, and takes about 66 minutes to Seoul Station.
- Airport buses — cover Seoul's main hotels and commercial districts and still run late at night, making them the first choice for a late arrival.
- Taxi — about 50 km, usually in the 60,000–100,000 won range, with a late-night surcharge on top.
Practical tips
- Connecting passengers should check the terminals for both flights before departure: Korean Air and Asiana are at T2, most foreign carriers at T1 — this one step prevents the great majority of transfer panic.
- The Airport Railroad stops running relatively early, so for a late-night arrival plan on an airport bus or a taxi instead.
- The airport's rest areas, food and shower facilities are excellent, and a long connection does not require clearing immigration — when time is tight, rest where you are.
