Doha Hamad International Airport terminal guideAirport Guide
Hamad International lies about 15 km from the centre of Doha and handles around 54.3 million passengers a year (2025) as Qatar Airways' global connecting hub. It has a single terminal, with five piers reaching out to either side — and as in Dubai or Istanbul, the logic of a connection here is that you walk within the building and never change building.
One terminal, five piers
| Code | Name | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| A / B / C | Piers | Boarding areas on either side of the main hall |
| D / E | Piers | Boarding areas added by the expansion, with the newest facilities |
How to work out where you are going: the gate letter is the pier. A–C are on the older side, while D and E belong to the expansion; a gate in those two zones means a longer walk.
- At the centre of the expansion is an indoor tropical garden, the Orchard — a signature sight, and a landmark to steer by during a long connection.
- Travelators link the building, and reaching the furthest pier takes 15–25 minutes.
Our diagram draws it as a single hall with two long piers reaching out precisely to serve as a reminder: when your gate is in the D or E zone, count on another stretch of indoor walking.
Transfers and connections
Doha is one of the world's most efficient transfer points, and a Qatar Airways through connection is close to seamless:
- Every transfer is completed inside the same building, with no need to clear immigration or pass security again.
- On a through ticket, 60–90 minutes is usually enough to connect, but when your gates are in the D or E zone, stretch that to two hours.
- The transfer corridors and signage inside are clear — just follow the Transfer signs.
Routes and flights
| Aspect | Details |
|---|---|

| Flights | 282,975 aircraft movements in 2025, roughly 780 a day, with an 85% on-time performance |
| Aircraft | Qatar Airways is the base carrier, flying an all-widebody long-haul fleet (Boeing 777 and Airbus A350, around 250 aircraft) |
Getting into Doha
- Red Line metro — there is an airport station, running direct to the Msheireb interchange in the city centre; fares are extremely low, making it the cheapest way.
- Taxi — a queued rank at the exit; about 15 km and 20 minutes or so, and not expensive.
- Ride-hailing — board at the designated point, and more convenient for a late-night arrival.
Practical tips
- The Red Line runs until around midnight, so keep a taxi as your fallback if you arrive late at night.
- Doha is fiercely hot in summer; around midday, favour the metro and indoor routes and keep your time outdoors to a minimum.
- With time to spare on a connection, the rest areas, pool and garden inside the terminal are all worth exploring — there is no need to take a transit visa just to "go out and have a look".
