Tashkent International Airport terminal guide공항 안내
Tashkent lies about 12 km from the city centre, handles around 10 million passengers a year and is the main gateway to Central Asia. Its layout has one crucial constraint: the international terminal (T2) and the domestic terminal (T3) sit on opposite sides of the runway, with no airside link between them — an international-to-domestic transfer means leaving the building, driving round by road and clearing security again, and it is the part of a Central Asian connection that most needs a time buffer.

The two terminals in use
| Code | Name | Main flights | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| T2 | Terminal 2 | International | All scheduled international flights use it; blue glass facade, recently refurbished |
| T3 | Terminal 3 | Domestic | Opened in 2011; serves Uzbekistan's domestic routes |
| T1 | Terminal 1 | Closed | The old domestic building, now being rebuilt |
Working out where you are going:
- International at T2, domestic at T3 — that one line is all you need.
- The two are close together, but there is no walkway and no airside connection, so the only way across is a taxi or shuttle bus round the perimeter (10–15 minutes).
Our diagram places the two terminals on opposite sides of the runway with the detour drawn between them, precisely to mark out this stretch that has to be done on the ground.
Transfers and connections
- For international to domestic, allow more than 3 hours — immigration, baggage reclaim, the drive round and checking in and clearing security again: none of it can be skipped.
- An international-to-international connection on a single through ticket can be done inside T2; on separate tickets you go through the landside process as well.
- Tashkent is expanding its international terminal and planning a new one, so routes inside the building may change — follow the signs on the day.
Routes and flights
| Aspect | Detail |
|---|---|
| Routes | Around 40 international destinations, covering Europe (Frankfurt, London, Rome, Madrid, Istanbul), Russian cities, the Middle East, East Asia (Beijing, Seoul, Tokyo) and Central Asian neighbours, plus a dense domestic network to Samarkand, Bukhara, Urgench and others. |
| Flights | A record around 10 million passengers in 2025, on 40,153 aircraft movements (about 110 a day), up 14% on 2024. |
| Aircraft | The main base is Uzbekistan Airways (A320 family narrowbodies with A330 widebodies, and 787-9s on order), followed by low-cost carriers Qanot Sharq and Panorama Airways and regional subsidiary Silk Avia. |
Getting into Tashkent
- Taxi / ride-hailing — about 12 km, 20–30 minutes; order through an app or ask your hotel to arrange it.
- Buses and metro — the city metro network is extensive, but from the airport you first need road transport to the nearest station.
- Airport bus — a limited number of routes, fine if you are not in a hurry.
- No direct rail — the airport currently has no rail or metro service.
Practical tips
- Uzbekistan has opened up considerably in recent years: citizens of many countries can enter visa-free, but check your own visa and transit requirements before you travel.
- There is an airside hotel at the airport, so a long connection can be spent resting without clearing immigration, and you do not need extra paperwork to stay overnight.
- Central Asian routes mostly use Tashkent as the transfer point, and reaching the old cities of Samarkand and Bukhara usually means changing to a domestic flight here — allow more than 3 hours, as above.
