Miami International Airport terminal guide공항 안내
Miami's airport lies about 13 km from the city centre and handles around 55.3 million passengers a year (2025), making it the main US gateway to Latin America and the Caribbean. Its structure is one vast U-shaped building, divided by colour into three zones and six concourses (D–J) — there is no I and no K, which is the most common source of confusion here.
Satellite view

In the satellite image, the terminals, apron and runways at Miami International Airport (MIA) are clearly visible.
The satellite image comes from Esri World Imagery (© Esri, Maxar, Earthstar Geographics); the field and attribution are labelled in the image. This is a satellite view, not a ground-level photograph.
One U-shaped building, three zones, six concourses
| Zone | Concourse | Main carriers |
|---|---|---|
| North (blue) | D | American Airlines only, and the longest in the building (about 1.6 km) |
| Central (yellow) | E / F / G | JetBlue, Qatar, Iberia, Southwest and others |
| South (red) | H / J | Delta, LATAM, Lufthansa, Emirates, Air France and others |
How to tell where you are:
- The gate letter is the concourse; there is no such thing as changing terminal here, only how far you have to walk.
- There are only two airside links: D ↔ E and H ↔ J — any other concourse-to-concourse connection means going out to the landside and through security again.
- Walking end to end from D to J takes about 25–30 minutes, so budget your time by how many concourses you are crossing.
Our diagram draws it as a long U-shaped ribbon with the concourse letters marked at either end precisely to make the point that at Miami, time is spent in concourses crossed.
Transfers and connections
- American Airlines is in Concourse D — an American connection is almost always completed inside D, which also has a small multi-stop people mover running along its length.
- A connection between the central zone (E/F/G) and the south zone (H/J) means leaving security and going back through, so allow more than 2 hours.
- Flights towards Latin America are dense and the share of connecting passengers is high, so signage is bilingual in Spanish and English.
Routes and flights
- Routes — around 100 airlines flying to about 190 destinations, with the densest network in Latin America and the Caribbean (about 80 points); long-haul points include London, Paris, Frankfurt, Madrid, São Paulo and Buenos Aires.
- Flights — 55.3 million passengers in 2025 (24.8 million international, 30.5 million domestic), the second-busiest US airport for international travellers.
- Aircraft — main base is American Airlines (Concourse D, over 60% of traffic), followed by JetBlue, Delta, LATAM, British Airways, Lufthansa and Emirates; short-haul fleets are 737 and A320 family, with 777, 787, A330 and A380 on long-haul.
Getting into Miami
- MIA Mover + Metrorail — the free mover links the terminals to the Multi-Modal Center, where you change to Metrorail or commuter rail for the city and beyond.
- Airport buses / local buses — covering downtown and the beaches.
- Taxi / rideshare — about 13 km, with pick-up from set points; the expressways clog badly at peak times.
- Car hire — a very large rental centre, reached by the mover.
Practical tips
- Miami is in the middle of a long-running redevelopment (including new concourses and post-security connectors), so the links between some concourses will change — check official information before you travel.
- Flights to many Latin American destinations leave in the same departure bank, so check-in and security queues are long in the early morning and evening — arrive early.
- The drive towards the beaches (South Beach) can take twice as long, so allow separate time for a beach trip.
