From Sheremetyevo Airport (SVO) to the city center, shuttle bus 1195 with a change onto metro Line 2 is the easiest way in: about an hour end to end, for around 540 roubles.
Why take bus 1195
The airport bus stop serves both route 851 and route 1195. Route 1195 is the "Экспресс-автобус / Shuttle bus", which runs non-stop to Khovrino metro station (до М Ховрино / to Khovrino Metro Station) — the northern terminus of Line 2 — and it leaves from platform C1.
The route step by step
1. Clear customs and pick up your bags
After customs, head for the baggage carousel first. Around 5 p.m. is the peak for arrivals, when the queue is longest, so avoid that window if you are in a hurry.

2. Turn right and find the exit
With your bags in hand, turn right and follow the "Выход / Exit" signs out of the arrivals hall.

3. Find bus platform C1
Once outside, walk towards the bus platforms and look for the pillar marked C1. The stop sign shows a countdown to the next departure of route 1195.

4. Buy your ticket from the marshal in red and grey
The marshal in the red-and-grey uniform on the platform sells the tickets, so buy straight from her: 450 roubles per person, cash accepted.

5. Board: the red 1195
The red 1195 is the airport shuttle; on board there is a rack for large luggage and a screen showing the route and the stops.

6. Get off at Khovrino
The last stop is Khovrino (Ховрино) metro station; once you are off, just follow the crowd.

7. Buy a metro ticket and take Line 2
There are ticket machines inside the station, 90 roubles for a single ride; 1-day, 3-day and 30-day passes are also available. The machines take 500-rouble notes.

Once through the gates, follow the signs for Line 2 downstairs; Line 2 is the dark green Zamoskvoretskaya line.

8. Ride into the city center
Line 2 runs south from Khovrino through Belorusskaya, Mayakovskaya, Tverskaya and other central stations. The author's destination this trip was Novokuznetskaya, leaving by exit 1.

Watch the station names closely: the author rode past their stop and lost time. The gaps between stations on Line 2 are short, but the announcements are in Russian, so keep an eye on your live position on your phone.

You come out of the station straight into the city center.

Cost and time
| Item | Cost | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Route 1195 airport shuttle | 450 roubles per person | about 20–30 minutes to Khovrino |
| Metro, single ride | 90 roubles | about 35 minutes to the center |
| Total | about 540 roubles | about 1 hour |
Practical tips
- You can leave your luggage on the bus, so there is no need to hold a big case on your lap.
- Have a 500-rouble note ready: it works for the cash fare at the bus platform and at the metro ticket machines, and it is handier than a large note.
- The metro sells day passes; if you will be riding several times that day, a 1-day pass works out cheaper.
- A taxi or ride-hailing app is of course faster, but it costs several times as much and gets stuck in traffic on the way into town at peak times.
