Johannesburg Airport Terminal B Domestic Arrivals — the Six-Step Walk to the Uber Pickup
- Johannesburg airport

Most guides to catching a ride at Johannesburg airport that you find online are written about Terminal A, but domestic flights arrive at Terminal B. This article fills in the full route for domestic arrivals at Terminal B.
Step one: pick the right terminal when you book
After you enter your destination in Uber, the pickup point must be set to "Terminal B - Domestic Arrivals".
The app defaults to pinning your location at Terminal A. The two are not far apart, but dragging a suitcase the long way round is no fun at all. Check it before you request the ride.
The walk in six steps
Uber's in-app walking directions are very detailed; here they are, the six steps in order.
1. From baggage claim up to level 1 (L1)
Walking out of baggage claim, turn right to the escalators and ride up to level 1.

2. On level 1, turn right towards the restaurants
At the top of the escalator keep going straight, then turn right and head towards the restaurants.

3. Take the skywalk to Parkade 2
Cross the skywalk beside the SAPS desk (on your right) to the Parkade 2 car park.

4. Enter Parkade 2, then turn right
Follow the pedestrian crossing and turn right into Parkade 2.

5. Straight through to pillar 2E
Go straight across the pedestrian crossing to pillar 2E.

6. Meet your driver at pillar 2E
Meet your driver at the designated pickup point in front of pillar 2E.

What the ride costs
From Terminal B to Sandton (near Sandton City) it came to about 350 rand — not cheap.
The author arrived at midday and left at midday the next day, so only 24 hours on the ground. If your trip keeps the same short-stop rhythm, renting a car for a day is often less hassle — collect it near the airport and drop it off on your way out.
A few things to know
- The pickup point is inside the car park, not at the terminal door; just follow Uber's walking directions.
- Uber pickup points in South Africa are usually marked with pillar numbers, and noting the pillar number (2E here) is more accurate than describing where you are.
- If you land at night, request the ride in the app and walk to the designated pickup point rather than accepting offers from touts outside the arrivals hall.
