Westchester County Airport (HPN) sits at White Plains, north of New York City, handling around 1.5 million commercial passengers a year (as of 2024), and is a small regional airport in the New York metropolitan area, far smaller than the three airports of JFK, Newark and LaGuardia. It serves only a handful of domestic routes, and its strengths and its limits are equally sharp: the process is minimal with almost no queues, but the flight choices are few and there is no rail link.

Getting into New York

- Car hire — rental desks beside the terminal, suited to trips towards Connecticut and New England.
- No rail link — the whole trip into the city is by road, which is its main weakness.

- Who it suits: travellers based in New York's northern suburbs or around Connecticut — you land at your own doorstep and save the one to two hours in and out of Manhattan.
- Who it does not suit: travellers whose destination is Manhattan — the road time and its unpredictability are not worth it, and a direct flight to one of the three main airports is better.
- The airport has operating restrictions including a night curfew, so flights are concentrated in daylight hours; check the departure and arrival times when you book.
