Taipei Taoyuan International Airport terminal guideAirport Guide
Taoyuan is about 30 km from central Taipei and handles around 48 million passengers a year. It has only two terminals, and the division is easy to follow: China Airlines and the SkyTeam group are mostly in T1, EVA Air and the Star Alliance group mostly in T2 — check the carrier and you can largely settle which building you need.
The two terminals
| Code | Name | Main users |
|---|---|---|
| T1 | Terminal 1 | China Airlines, SkyTeam members and others |
| T2 | Terminal 2 | EVA Air, Star Alliance members and others |
Working out where you are going: go by the terminal printed on your boarding pass; China Airlines in T1 and EVA Air in T2 is the quickest rule of thumb, and other foreign carriers are spread across both buildings.
Transfers and connections
- Free buggies and shuttle buses run between T1 and T2, and the walkways connect them too; the distance is not great.
- China Airlines to China Airlines, or EVA Air to EVA Air, stays within one building and is the quickest.
- For a connection between buildings, add the shuttle and the walk to your buffer; for international-to-international connections, allow 2 hours.
Routes and flights
| Aspect | Detail |
|---|---|
| Routes | A record around 48 million passengers in 2025 (+6.4%); around 130 destinations domestic and international, with long-haul points on both US coasts and in Europe (London, Paris, Frankfurt, Amsterdam), Oceania and South Asia. A record 6.69 million passengers connected here, making it a key relay between North Asia and South-East Asia. |
| Flights | 262,217 aircraft movements in 2025 (about 720 a day), up about 5.5% on 2024. |
| Aircraft | The main bases are China Airlines (SkyTeam; A350 / A330 / 777 / 787 widebodies with A321neo narrowbodies) and EVA Air (Star Alliance; A330 / 787 / 777 widebodies), followed by STARLUX Airlines (A350) and Tigerair Taiwan. |
Getting to Taipei
- Airport MRT express — about 37 minutes direct to Taipei Main Station with no intermediate stops, and luggage racks in the cars.
- Airport MRT all-stations service — stops at every station along the line, about 50 minutes to Taipei Main Station, and cheaper.
- Airport buses — routes cover the main districts of Taipei and New Taipei, with services still running late at night.
- Taxi — about 40 minutes, noticeably congested at peak times, and considerably more expensive than the MRT.
Practical tips
- The Airport MRT calls at HSR Taoyuan station, so taking the MRT and then switching to the high-speed rail south is the usual way to reach Taichung or Kaohsiung.
- The express and all-stations services share the Taipei Main Station terminus but stop differently, so check the front of the train and the platform screens while you wait.
- If you are connecting, confirm the terminal for both flights first — the China Airlines group and the EVA Air group are in different buildings, and this one check avoids most transfer confusion.
