If the fares are close, these are the nearest airports of the same class (large airport) — straight-line distance, with their own non-stop counts from the same dataset:

Before you fly

  • The 2014 snapshot records only Sydney; check Jetstar and the airport site for current schedules.
  • Avalon is Melbourne's second airport and sits well outside the city, so include ground transport in your timings.

About the data

Runways, elevation and coordinates come from OurAirports open data. Routes and carriers come from the June 2014 OpenFlights snapshot and include codeshares and interline services; they indicate network shape and scale, not current schedules.

History

Melbourne's second-busiest airport, 23 km from Geelong and 55 km south-west of the city, hosts Jetstar and Sharp Airlines and Qantas heavy maintenance. Regular air traffic control arrived in May 2008, and the field stages the biennial Australian International Airshow.
